About Split the Bill
A tiny calculator for groups of friends on holiday or away for the weekend. One or two people pick up the bill — this works out who owes who, fairly and quickly.
How it works
- Tell it how many people or groups are sharing the bill.
- Enter the bill total, before tip.
- Choose a suggested tip (5%, 10% or 15%) or type the exact amount you left.
- Enter how much each person actually paid.
- See the smallest set of repayments that settles everyone up.
The fair-share maths
The grand total is the bill plus the tip. Everyone's fair share is that total divided equally between the people or groups. Each person's balance is what they paid minus their share:
- A positive balance means they are owed money.
- A negative balance means they owe money.
To settle up, the app matches the people who owe the most to the people who are owed the most, one transfer at a time, until everyone is square. That keeps the number of payments as small as possible — often just one or two.
A quick example
Four friends, a €120 bill and a €12 tip — €132 in total, so €33 each. Anna paid the whole €132. Each of the other three owes Anna €33.
Your privacy
Everything runs in your browser. There is no account, no server and no tracking — the numbers you type never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.
